Spring Sings Different

Spring sings different on my street

Ocean breeze AWAKE with the scent of a million orange blossoms,

Flower spikes rocketing skyward

UP, UP, UP!

Who can reach blue first?

Silhouettes of agave

Or maybe Brachiosauruses,

Their long necks drooping

Everything draped in Spring song.

Now comes the night-time jingle

Paleteros making the rounds

Tamale carts,

Their strands of lights

An invitation,

The laughter of people out past dark.

Chimeneas glowing,

Firepits crackling,

The occasional excitement

Of barbecue on the air.

Sweatshirts and sandals

We’re cold, but not

Shoe cold,

Folks on my street

Clapping high-fives with Spring.
