Blooming

Papa says mama’s got a spring in her step,

Swishing down sidewalks,

Frisking across hopscotch courts

A hum on her lips or else

A laugh bursting out that she

Can’t and don’t wanna keep

Tucked away.

I guess I have a spring in mine too,

Succulents streaking golden,

Leaning in on me,

Making me

Dizzy

For how happy they look,

Like they’ve surprised themselves

Busting out like that.

School days got me by the collar,

Don’t rush they whisper, tugging,

Long days are coming soon enough,

But for today

The cool evening air,

Citrus tang

Clinging to my clothes,

The city and everyone here

Blooming, blooming.
